Chic Saks was inspired by my mother Beverly, who passed away in 2008, at age 82 with Alzheimer’s. Shortly thereafter I launched ChicSaks. My sisters and I needed a therapeutic distraction after her death. We also wanted to find a way to contribute to the Alzheimer’ Association to further research for a cure.
I met Anne Marie Seriba who provided important sewing pointers and contributed her skill to our creation of the ChicSaks brand. Carefully selecting and matching fabric, a unique set of products emerged.
ChicSaks products found their way into Tari, a smart boutique in Georgetown, Washington DC.
ChicSaks is now in Sarasota, Florida. With sun and color all around, ChicSaks, seems right at home. Our ChicSaks Shack at the Phillipii Farmhouse Market is open for business between 8 am an 1pm every Wednesday until 26 April 2023. The market is located at Phillippi Estate Park at 5500 South Tamiami Trail between Proctor Road and Stickney Point Road about 3 miles south of downtown Sarasota.
In the course of this journey, I learned that to create these lovely handmade reversible oversized Saks. It takes at least five hours cutting, sewing and obtaining materials. We searched for material to recycle from a variety of sources, focused on fabrics that were beautiful and washable. Some part of every business or vacation trip is spent looking for interesting fabrics and buttons. we have sourced from all over the world, including places as far away as the fabric districts of Paris and Athens to localities in the United States to include New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC.
For the future we are considering becoming a nonprofit and to continue to employ people here at home for decent wages.
We are also considering expanding out line to include ChicHats.
Keep us in mind as we are now in the development stage and hope to launch new product in 2023! In the meantime, we will post more photos and information here.
ChicSaks fit in wonderfully in this smart boutique.
